Where are you located?
I live in Wilmington, North Carolina, but my sessions are not limited to only the immediate area. I also shoot at and around the various Coastal Carolina beaches, Hampstead, and North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
How long have you been in business?
I have been a part-time photographer since 2008 when my oldest son was born. I’ve been shooting for others and shooting professionally since 2012.
Where do you shoot?
As a lifestyle photographer, many of my shoots are done indoors, in your own home where everyone is most comfortable and themselves. I do also shoot in downtown Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, Surf City, and a variety of local outdoor locations.
What do you charge for a session?
The session fee is $325 with a 50% deposit required to book your session date. Digital copies of your images, professional image editing, and touchups, as well as copyright release, is included with this session. Individual prints and enlargements are not included but can be purchased at a discounted price from a professional lab directly through me. For more information about sessions, please see here.
What subject matter do you photograph?
I primarily photograph children and families, though I do take the occasional Senior Session and maternity session. At this time I do not photograph events or weddings. To inquire about any other session type, you may contact me here.
What time of day do you shoot?
Because gorgeous sunlight is essential to outdoor photography, all of my outdoor sessions begin two hours before sunset. We will discuss the start time of your session at the time of booking. Indoor sessions are more flexible.
How do I prepare my home for an in-home lifestyle photography session?
This is a great question! Because your home is your haven and the place where you, and your children, feel most comfortable, I encourage you to ensure that your home feels that way on the day of your session. Please do not feel that you have to hire a housekeeper or a professional cleaning service before your session. As a busy mom of two, I expect to see a lived in home and a few scattered toys. Years from now, you’ll remember the memories we make on the day of our session and not the “mess” you felt that your house was.
What is the best time to book a newborn photography session?
The best time to schedule a newborn session is when you’re still pregnant! I offer a Bump & Beyond package that includes both your Maternity Session and your in-home newborn session. Newborn shoots are best done within the first three weeks of babies life to capture all of those teeny-tiny fingers and toes and all of the brand newness of the babies life.
We will have family visiting during our newborn session. Can they join in, too?
ABSOLUTELY! As a military family, I know what it’s like to not have grandparents around all of the time, so I encourage these sessions if you have family who is normally not in town. Since all of my newborn sessions are done in the home, having extra family around (especially when there is an older sibling or two around) can be both helpful and calming amidst all of the attention your new family member will receive.
What if my kids misbehave during our session?
First of all, I’m a very busy mom of two rambunctious and loud little boys, so I know what it’s like to live among the chaos and excitement that children bring. While at home photo sessions create a sense of familiarity among children, especially if the child is shy or reserved in demeanor, they can wreck havoc on the parent’s emotions and anxiety. One aspect of my job is ensuring that your children are themselves, relaxed and having a good time during our session. I encourage parents to relax and have fun and let me handle the rest.
How can we get in touch?
The best way to reach me is via email at Hello@CourtneyKirkland.Photography. Please allow up to 24 hours for email reply regarding session inquiries or you can reach me directly through the contact form here on my site.
What is your policy on rescheduling?
Things happen. It rains. Life happens to everyone. In the event that the unexpected and the unavoidable happens, we will work together to set a time that is convenient for both parties to get your session rescheduled. Please keep in mind that all session fees are nonrefundable. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, your session will be rescheduled.
How long does it take to receive my images?
Please allow up to three-four weeks to receive your images. You can expect to see three to four sneak peeks of your images on my business facebook page while you wait for your final images.
